Did you or did you not observe today as Mardi Gras Day? "Gras" is French for fat and "Mardi" is French for Tuesday. It is the day before Ash Wednesday, a day of celebration and partying before the rigors of Lent's forty days of fasting and sacrifice. Mardi Gras...the mere mention of these two words convey thoughts of: raucous celebrations with costumed party-goers, colored beads flying through the air, ear-to-ear grins plastered on the faces of millions of revelers, and of course floats parading through the streets of New Orleans! However, I'm in Hawaii so no parades...just plenty booze, food and entertainment right on the streets.
I'd decided to check it out since I've never been to a Mardi Gras celebration. So I made my way downtown after work to be part of and see for myself how the locals here in Hawaii enjoy the "greatest free block party" on Nuuanu Street! They were still setting up the stages on both ends of the street for some all night entertainment so instead I browse through the booths that were providing food and booze. Me, being the naughty and cheeky me, bought a cold, short glass of Bacardi Coke along with some Thai food ~ pad thai noodles, fried chicken and chicken curry.
"Let the Good Times Roll!" I'm a little brain dead now...thanks to the Bacardi but I will need to persevere because I have to stay up to do homework :( [now what I really need is a cup of strong, warm and comforting coffee to keep me awake or I can break a sweat by dancing to some JT tunes...]
