So it's been almost a week after the colossal news broadcast about Dobelle's firing from his position as the president of UH. This was all done behind closed doors when the regents came to an unanimous decision to have Dobelle fired for cause. That was their reason and they could not give a more thorough explanation but what made it simply ugly was the fact that it was done without having Dobelle there in person as he was away on vacation. The regents knew he was away, but because this has been an ongoing problem, they decided to come to a resolution that having him fired works as the best solution. I felt that all this commotion should have been handled differently; first by having waited until Dobelle got back from his trip and to tell him in person that he's being fired. Second, no factual reason(s) were given to the public for his firing except for "cause" and they waited to finally disclose the actual reason(s) why he was being fired after he'd returned.
There were much speculation that his firing was due to politics. All because he had supported Mazie Hirono instead of Linda Lingle. This was Dobelle's wrongdoing and I think that him being the head of UH which is a state-funded college, should have been in the sidelines and only supported whoever that won the elections. I don't go to UH so I don't know the school at all, but from what I'm told by Ryan, all of this have been ongoing for the last year or so and there's been disputes and disagreements between Dobelle and the regents about UH. He's happy about Dobelle not being the president anymore and agrees that it could have been done differently.
