An Eventful Weekend...

So how was everyone's weekend? I must say...I did have a pretty interesting weekend eventhough Ryan had left me here by myself and flew to Maui for the 3-day weekend. We did talk over the phone a lot...thank goodness for unlimited mobile-to-mobile minutes...so it wasn't too bad, although I did miss his company! I had planned to do some window shopping but instead I ended doing real "shopping"; I think I may have overdone it and did some damage to my credit card! I'll come back to that laters...

Saturday was a slow day. I'd slept in, had ramen for breakfast and surf the web for a while before deciding to go out. So I showered, dressed up and drove out to Hawaii Kai to check out the stores at Koko Marina. It was a nice drive out there, but I'd forgotten to bring my camera. I scolded myself for not remembering to bring it with me (I had it all ready in it's case; last place I remember seeing it was the couch...) Anyways, since I didn't have my camera with me, I decided not to stay too long out on that side of the island and instead drove back into town to get some essentials from Walmart & Sam's Club (eggs, shampoo, etc). The rest of Saturday was spent at home when I did some minor household chores, prepared and cooked dinner and finally settled in by channel-surfing for a suitable show on cable.

I woke up early on Sunday. I'd decided to play "tourist" for the next 2 days so I decided to go to the Swap Meet at Aloha Stadium first. As I was driving to the ATM to get some cash, Ryan calls me. Reason? Circuit City ad! "What DVD(s) were on sale?" he asked. Luckily I'd brought the newspaper along with me...so I continued to tell him the list of advertised DVD(s). So as he tells me which DVD(s) to buy...I suddenly remember that I forgot to bring the CC gift-card. Good thing I was still in town, so I drove home first, get the card and head out towards Pearlridge. Now...being that I did have my own plans on what I wanted to do and where I wanted to go, I headed straight to Circuit City first. They open at 10am and it was about 9.35am when I arrived there. So I parked the car, and started to read the other ads in the newspaper while waiting for the store to open. Satisfied that I got the DVD(s) he wanted...I can finally go on with my plans. I get to Stadium...trying to find parking...a lot of people shopping...I slowly browse through each stall...making a mental note of what I may want to buy. By the time I got done, it didn't dawn to me that two hours had passed since I first got there. After all that walking, I'd only bought some t-shirts (8 for $20) for myself and some dessert; li hing mui pineapple (refreshing) being that it was so hot and I was kinda dehydrated!

next stop...Waikiki

The Okinawan Festival was being held at Kapiolani Park. I didn't know what to expect since I've never been to one but thought I give it a try and see it for myself. Finding parking was again a problem because not only was the Okinawan Festival going on that day but there were several stalls reserved for the "Sunset on the Beach" event happening later in the evening. It features live entertainment, a free movie and food from Oahu's leading restaurants...all on the beach. The movie for that night was "Flight 29 Down". You needed a permit to park in those stalls so I ended up at the parking lot next to the Waikiki Shell. A far walk I must say! So as I get to Kapiolani Park, there are many booths with the different Okinawan food...my favorite the Okinawan andagi; those drop-fried balls of sweetly greasy dough (absolutely delicious!). Tents were up as well to display some of the Okinawan culture and one that got my attention were the bongsai tree displays. Interesting! Staying for a little bit to enjoy some live entertainment, I decided to walk down into the heart of Waikiki.
